FSW Presents Woodfield and Sterling Awards at Annual Meeting
FSW Volunteer David Friel and Fairfield County Community Foundation Honored
FSW, Inc., Bridgeport, CT, [November 4, 2009] - At its annual meeting today, FSW (formerly Family Services Woodfield) presented long-time volunteer David Friel with the Woodfield Award, in recognition of distinguished leadership, outstanding volunteer service and long-term commitment to FSW. Friel has volunteered with FSW’s Literacy Volunteers program for over 10 years.
Chairman of the Board Ken Weinstein presented the Fairfield County Community Foundation (FCCF) with the Sterling Award, which is bestowed on an individual or organization that has distinguished itself over a long period of time in meeting important community needs, particularly in service to women and children. The award highlights FSW’s values stemming from its roots in the Sterling Home.
FSW President Dr. William Hass recognized the impact of FCCF on fostering high-quality non-profit initiatives. “With the Foundation’s help,” Dr. Hass said, “FSW and many other area nonprofits have been able to significantly impact the lives of individuals in our community. Our ability to tackle the root causes of regional problems has been greatly enhanced.”
Also honored at the annual meeting, held at the Pequot Library, was FSW Employee of the Year Kathy Pontin, Director of FSW’s Food Services program, and 25 year FSW veteran. “Kathy has worked tirelessly to implement the expansion of FSW’s Food Service program to the greater New Haven area. Her efforts have resulted in a significant increase in FSW’s ability to provide nutritious meals both at home and at congregate sites,” said Dr. Hass.
Additional honorees Edie Baum, Brian Landgon (former FSW President) and Donna Waltrip were bestowed with the distinction of Life Trustee.
FSW’s mission is to empower people to build a brighter future. Employing a holistic approach, FSW links flexible, innovative and collaborative programs that restore personal capability, develop skills and build a pathway to economic self sufficiency.
