How to Volunteer
Literacy Volunteers|
Tutor: Work one-on-one or in small groups with basic literacy or English for speakers of other languages to help improve their literacy skills. Tutors must be 18 years old, able to read at a minimum 12th grade level, have no record of conviction of any violent crime, be dependable, sensitive to diverse backgrounds, patient and respectful of confidentiality. Tutors must successfully complete 18-20 hours of training, be available to tutor 2 hours per week, and spend time preparing for lessons. We request a minimum one-year commitment to ensure a positive outcome for the client. Tutoring is free, confidential, individualized and learner-centered. Locations: Bridgeport and Norwalk. Mini Course Facilitator: Work with current volunteers to develop short term courses such as - Financial Literacy, Medical Terminology, Getting your Drivers License ... and more! Office support: Answer phones, update files, research, prepare workshop materials. Prefer 3-4 hour weekly commitment. Must be able to read and write English. Computer Lab Assistant: Assist learners in the computer lab. Computer knowledge required. Newsletter Staff: Work with staff to collect and write articles for newsletter, maintain mailing list, coordinate printing and distribution. Good written communications skills required. |

Food Services Program (Meals on Wheels and HomePlate)
Volunteers are needed to deliver meals to clients in the Greater Bridgeport and New Haven areas. We also need administrative help with route planning, data confirmation, research and other clerical tasks. Community Financial Volunteers
Volunteers with diverse financial backgrounds are needed. The desire to share financial knowledge, skills, experience, time, and energy helping others is important. Volunteers will have an opportunity to conduct financial workshops and engage communities throughout the state of Connecticut.
